In 2012 I completed a year long internship with Teknion, an international designer, manufacturer and marketer of mid to high-end office systems and related furniture products. I had the opportunity to contribute to a number of major design projects. I was involved in all stages of the design process and had the opportunity to work closely with engineers, marketers, and designers.

Teknion Optos Wall System
Optos® is a seamless glass wall system. The system is very complex as it provides leveling capability to respond to typical uneven concrete floors as well as integration with Teknion’s other wall systems and furniture.
Optos needed to be redesigned to have a lower profile, improved aesthetics and decreased installation time. The project spanned the entire year of my placement and I was able to contribute to the development through all stages of conceptual sketching, CAD modeling, prototyping, and the final design.

Optos Framed Pivot Door
The framed pivot door is an innovative door offered in the Optos wall system. I had the opportunity to work on many of the aspects of the door that make it innovative. The door is designed to have great acoustic properties while maintaining the clean and thin aesthetic qualities consistent with Optos. The pivot hinge is an original design that integrates with the wall system as well as being structurally integral to the door’s frame.

Optos Glass Door Hinge
I was responsible for the redesign of an aluminum hinge for the Optos glass door. The hinge needed to match the aesthetics of the new wall while maintaing the original manufacturing method of extrusion with secondary machining.
